Those Who Led You

Doing some sightseeing with a visiting relative this past week, we drove by a church in another town.

Looking high above the trees, we could see the cross on top of a bell tower.

As far as I can tell, I don’t know anyone who attends that church, but I know there are those that do.

And—-there are those who have attended in the past.

Probably many, many people.

People who have come there to worship.

People who have come there to teach others.

People who have led each other as they spoke God’s word.

Think back—-

Who has invested their life into your spiritual journey?

A parent?

A friend?

A teacher?

A pastor or priest?

Do you remember them?

Do you remember their faith in God?

Are you investing your life into the spiritual journey of those God has brought into your scope of influence?

Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.

No Word From God

Could God ever fail?

Could His words fail?

Can we believe what He says, no matter what?

Has He ever failed you?

Can you think of anyone that He has failed?

God is faithful, always.

God can never fail.

What He says will happen, will.

We can believe Him, no matter what.

The angel, Gabriel, visited Mary and greeted her, causing her to become troubled—

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,  and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.  Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.  For no word from God will ever fail.”

Right and True

For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
 The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.

—Psalm 33:4-5

In your own life—-

Haven’t you found that God’s word was right?

That it was true?

Don’t you feel that God loves justice?

Can you see His unfailing love all around you?

Flowers Fall

Walking along a wooden deck that defined a nature trail, I was interested in seeing everything along the way.

The skies were filled with clouds and a storm was brewing.

I knew at any time I might have to turn back.

In the vividness that is created when afternoon skies grow dark, I noticed a brightly colored petal lying on the deck boards in front of me.

So vibrantly yellow, its presence could hardly be missed.

Where did it come from?

I began to look around to find out.

Nearby, a tree adorned with similar petals grew above the trail.

At some point, several of the petals would release and the deck would be covered.

Many things don’t last in this life.

Flowers are a classic example of that fact.

God, however, will never cease to exist.

His word will continue forever.

Isn’t there comfort in these words?

“All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
    Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”
