From Springs Into Valleys

I don’t understand how God holds the universe in place.

My thoughts can’t begin to comprehend His greatness.

All that I can do is trust that He does love me and that He is holding my life and the lives of those I love in His hands.

As my heart yearns for healing in the hearts of others, God knows my greatest desires.

He has the power to hold the universe in place, to hold our world in orbit and to hold the oceans within their boundaries while bringing water to every land.

I must trust that His great power can change lives and change hearts for all of eternity, as well.

*

You set the earth on its foundations
    so that it can never be shaken.
 You covered the earth with an ocean as though it were a robe.
    Water stood above the mountains
         and fled because of Your threat.
    Water ran away at the sound of Your thunder.
         The mountains rose and the valleys sank
            to the place You appointed for them.
     Water cannot cross the boundary You set
        and cannot come back to cover the earth.

 You make water gush from springs into valleys.
    It flows between the mountains.

—Psalm 104:5-10

Trust in Him

Where can we find rest?

Where can we find real hope?

Where can we find salvation?

Where can we find protection?

Who can we really trust?

Who can we pour out our hearts to?

*

Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
    my hope comes from him.
 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
    he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
    he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
 Trust in him at all times, you people;
    pour out your hearts to him,
    for God is our refuge.

His Love Among Us

Waterfalls capture my attention whenever I am near.

Something about the flowing water and the cascading patterns of rock and foam intrigue me as they quietly bid me to come closer.

Constantly moving, yet ever the same, the water is still as glass before the descent begins, reflecting the surroundings like an elegant mirror beneath the sky.

There is a popular Christian song that compares God’s love to a waterfall.

Here are some of the lyrics:

Your love is like a waterfall, waterfall
Running wild and free
You hear my heart when I call, when I call
Deep calls to deep
Your love is like a waterfall, waterfall
Raining down on me

Waterfall, waterfall

Oh God, my God I seek You
In this dry and desert land
You lead me to streams of mercy
Once again

(Chris Tomlin, “Waterfall”)

1 John 4:9 reads,This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.

God’s love is like a waterfall.

When we believe in His Son, we have life that flows over us, sealed forever by His love and forgiveness.

Living Water Will Flow

It’s one of my favorite places.

Nestled in a soft, rolling landscape, a wooden bridge–strong, but weathered–stands above a waterfall.

Being in a sub-tropical area, the foliage this time of year is thick and green with life.

Even though it is December, the flowers and emerald leaves mimic the summer with a lush performance.

The sound of the water cascading down on the flat rocks is soothing and inviting.

It is the perfect place for quiet thoughts and inner reflection.

Jesus said,

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

–John 7:38

Like the waterfall beneath the bridge, lives are changed when the living water of Jesus flows from the hearts of those who love Him.
