Two Great Lights

God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.

—Genesis 1:16

Today, I photographed the eclipse of the sun in my area. It was covered at 85 percent.

Photographing  it through a filter, the sun appeared orange.

The sun? God made it.

The moon? God made it.

The earth?

He made it, too.

He allows us to gaze upon His cosmic gallery from this most blessed creation we call home.

As the sun was setting, it was like a blazing ball of fire behind the trees.

It’s hard to imagine the true size of the sun.

It’s hard to comprehend it’s burning temperature.

It’s hard to fathom the brightness it expels into space.

Yet, God looks on all the universe that He created at once, controlling infinity.

His name is to be praised!

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!

The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens!
Who is like the Lord our God,
    who is seated on high,
who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?

—Psalm 113:1-6

The Day is Yours

Who does today belong to?

Who owns tonight?

Are they ours to control?

Can we plan their outcomes with total certainty?

God is sovereign.

As His children, we belong to Him.

Our days and nights belong to Him, as well.

We must rest in His love.

Rising of the Sun

The clouds were so thick and consuming.

The sun appeared as a white, round sphere in the sky, almost moon-like.

Such power is demonstrated to us every day.

The power of the sun to burn and to destroy, yet its warmth allows life to exist on our planet.

The power of the clouds to mask and filter the sun’s magnificent rays as they hint of rain to the earth below.

At every turn there is a display of God’s power within reach.

All powerful and understanding, He chooses to hear our words of praise.

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!
