The Sea is Never Full

The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.
 All streams flow into the sea,
    yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.

As The Deer

He was not at the water.

Instead, he was standing at a large stone where a few spindly branches with bright green leaves were growing.

Leaves are good food and they do have moisture inside, but leaves are not water.

Not an endless, flowing stream.

Although I didn’t see it, I am sure he looked for water when he was thirsty and found it.

Deep within us is a longing to connect with God, our Father.

We are thirsty for that connection as a deer is thirsty for water.

As the deer pants for streams of water,
    so my soul pants for you, my God.

The Streams of God

You care for the land and water it;
    You enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
    to provide the people with grain,
    for so You have ordained it.

You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
    You soften it with showers and bless its crops.

    and Your carts overflow with abundance.

The first month of the new year.

What will we see in the coming days and weeks?

I have faith that we will see the bounty of God.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines bounty this way:

“good things that are given or provided freely and in large amounts”

Everywhere we look, even in difficult situations, there are blessings from God.

Things given.

Things provided.

Things that are bestowed willingly to us.

Things from the loving heart of God.

Living Water Will Flow

It’s one of my favorite places.

Nestled in a soft, rolling landscape, a wooden bridge–strong, but weathered–stands above a waterfall.

Being in a sub-tropical area, the foliage this time of year is thick and green with life.

Even though it is December, the flowers and emerald leaves mimic the summer with a lush performance.

The sound of the water cascading down on the flat rocks is soothing and inviting.

It is the perfect place for quiet thoughts and inner reflection.

Jesus said,

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

–John 7:38

Like the waterfall beneath the bridge, lives are changed when the living water of Jesus flows from the hearts of those who love Him.
