Plant Seeds of Peace

And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

—James 3:18

I really liked the flowers I had purchased.

Placing them at the end of my front walkway in a nice little pot, they were there to greet me each day as I left for work and returned.

When this winter is over, I am hopeful that the flowers with return, as they produced many seeds during their tenure in the warmer months.

I am quite ready to see the new beautiful blooms that emerge from the tender plants that push up through the soil.

We can be like those flowers, too.

What would it be like if we lived our days as peacemakers, planting seeds of peace wherever we happened to be?

Look to the LORD

Look to the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.

–1 Chronicles 16:11

Where can we find the strength of the LORD?

Do we find it as we see the moon above us, held perfectly in place?

Do we find it as we hear the waves of the ocean crashing onto the shore, remaining within its boundaries?

Do we find it in the mathematical patterns of plants?

Can it be found in the miracle of birth?

Can it be felt as guilt and shame are forgiven?

Can it be perceived in an answered prayer?

Do we seek His face in the midst of joy?

Do we seek His face in the trial of pain?

Do we seek His face in each of our decisions?

In all things, we must look to the LORD.

Sweetness to the Soul

Driving along the highway, I couldn’t help but notice the sunflowers.

THOUSANDS of sunflowers!

On and on they went as I passed the green and yellow carpet of blooms that reached confidently toward the sky.

Each flower, giant and golden, began with a planted seed.

What if every time I said a kind or thoughtful word to someone a sunflower would be planted on an acre of land?

What if one could be planted every time I spoke to someone about God?

Within one year, what would that acre of ground look like?

If I were allowed to see it, would I cry tears of joy at a beautiful crop of yellow petals?

Or would I cry tears of sadness and regret because there were so few plants in the field?

God can use the seeds of our speech to touch an infinite number of hearts.

Truly, I want to say gracious words that convey love, concern and peace to others around me.

Isn’t that what you want, also?

Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
