Lies

Imagine playing a game with several people.

The contestant is blindfolded.

On a ping pong table or other flat surface, there is an object to be moved.

The point of the game is to see if the blindfolded contestant will listen to the “right” voices as they call out instructions for where to push the object to get it to a certain area on the table.

The challenge is difficult, because the opposing team is calling out bogus instructions to throw the contestant off, hoping to keep him from winning.

If you’re like me, you’ve listened to the “wrong” voice more than once.

If we are not listening for God’s instructions, we won’t know how to succeed at any given moment.

Instead, we will be listening to the lies of the devil, confused and off course.

Ephesians 6:11 says,

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”

Vanished From the Human Race

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;
    those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
 Everyone lies to their neighbor;
    they flatter with their lips
    but harbor deception in their hearts.

—Psalm 12:1-2

Does this sound like a prayer that you might hear right now, today?

Newspapers, magazines, internet.

Television.

Radio.

Alarming reports of crime, violence and dishonesty are an everyday occurrence.

Does it seem possible that these words were penned over two thousand years ago?

The human condition after Adam and Eve’s decision to disobey God has always been tainted by sin.

Yet, there are times and the there are the people of those times who have chosen to be faithful.

They have chosen to be loyal.

They have chosen a path of honesty.

Their hearts have been a place of transparency and truth.

Even though “things” may seem bad in the world, we can pray.

We can be encouraged that God hears us and that there are still those alive today who are choosing to follow Him.

Faithfully.

Loyally.

Truthfully.
