What a Wonderful Inheritance!

The Lord Himself is my inheritance, my prize.

He is my food and drink, my highest joy!

He guards all that is mine.

He sees that I am given pleasant brooks and meadows as my share!

What a wonderful inheritance!

I will bless the Lord who counsels me;

He gives me wisdom in the night.

He tells me what to do.

I am always thinking of the Lord;

and because He is so near,

I never need to stumble or fall.

–Psalm 16:5-8

Blessed is the Nation

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
    the people He chose for His inheritance.
 From heaven the Lord looks down
    and sees all mankind;
 from His dwelling place He watches
    all who live on earth—
  He who forms the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.

—Psalm 33:12-15

God considers what the people of my country do.

God considers what the people of my state do.

God considers what the people of my county do.

God considers what the people of my city do.

God considers what the people living on my street do.

God considers what I do.

Blessed are the people who God considers and finds that they are trusting in Him with hearts of faith.

Spoil or Fade

Walking down the street, I saw some Bird of Paradise plants growing.

These plants are named for their resemblance to actual multicolored birds called birds of paradise.

Paradise plants.

Paradise birds.

When I think of paradise, I think of Jesus’ words to one of the thieves crucified along side Him:

 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?  We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

—Luke 23:39-43

Paradise is where Jesus is.

Believers who follow Jesus will have an inheritance in paradise.

It will never “spoil or fade.”

There will never be a time when God takes it away.

Are you thankful for your inheritance today?

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,  who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
