After finishing a late afternoon photo session, I drove along the country highway.

Deciding that I needed to make a cell phone call, I pulled over into a residential area off onto the side of an entrance road.

After stopping the car, I noticed a beautiful horse in the field nearby, the muted colors of the sunset setting his coat all aglow.

He looked calm and unhurried.

Serene.

Content.

He had what he needed.

Food.

Water.

A place to call home.

Hebrews 13:5 reads:

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Let Me Hear

It was early morning yesterday when I went to my friend’s house.

After my visit, I drove to the end of her street and turned around near a pasture.

The sun was low in the sky as it was glowing across the grass and trees.

Two horses stood serenely behind the fence.

I was blessed to see such a peaceful landscape—a gift from God.

Let me hear in the morning of Your steadfast love,
    for in You I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
    for to You I lift up my soul.

—Psalm 143:8

Mountain Pastures

There is a prairie located about 70 miles from my home.

Being a protected area of 21,000 acres, it is home to many animals and birds.

Wild horses and bison are found there.

As I hiked along a trail, I came upon a horse, comfortably grazing.

Unhurried.

Calm.

He had all the means for nourishment necessary, provided for him by his Creator.

Sing out your thanks to the Lord;

    sing praises to our God with a harp.
 He covers the heavens with clouds,
    provides rain for the earth,
    and makes the grass grow in mountain pastures.
 He gives food to the wild animals
    and feeds the young ravens when they cry.
 He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse
    or in human might.
 No, the Lord’s delight is in those who fear him,
    those who put their hope in his unfailing love.

—Psalm 147:7-11

To Prepare a Place

My mother died when I was only 28 years old.

Many memories of her live on in my heart.

She tried to make sure she read the Bible every single day.

Most of the time, when I was a child, she would read it out loud to me.

When she came to a passage that she didn’t understand, she would just say so.

Sometimes, my mother displayed a lot of understanding.

One memory I have is of a story she used to tell.

At a time before I was born, she was talking with one of my cousins, who was a child.

He wanted to talk to her about Heaven.

He asked her if he could have a pony in Heaven.

Her answer seems wise to me, even today.

She told him that if having a pony was what it would take to make him happy, then God would give him a pony in Heaven.

Going further with this thought, I personally believe that there will not be anyone in Heaven who is unhappy.

After all, we will be with Jesus who died to purchase our place there.

Our loved ones who followed Jesus on Earth will be with us.

With overflowing hearts, we will be filled with gratitude and praise in His presence.

Jesus also tells us in John 14:2 that,

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

Jesus is preparing a place for us!

For you.

For me.

But what if we would really like to have a pony for eternity?

If that would bring great joy to our hearts, I think God might just give us one…..
