Wilderness

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

—Isaiah 43:19

The bridge above the water provides a safe crossing over the dangers below.

Although the water looks peaceful enough, I have photographed a swimming alligator there before….

God continues to make a way for us, every day.

Each of us has a wilderness to cross at specific points in our lives.

Deserts may be on the horizon.

Yet, in all things, God is faithful.

He will make a way.

In the Barren Desert

pine-twoWalking out into my friend’s front yard, I photographed the view.

Tall pine trees grew stately toward the sky, ever green in the middle of winter.

Just before the trees, foliage that had succumbed to the cold had turned a rusty, yet golden, brown.

What a stark difference between the two.

God speaks in Isaiah 41:19:

“I will plant trees in the barren desert–cedar, acacia, myrtle, olive, cypress, fir, and pine.”

When I think of a barren desert, I don’t think of tall, healthy trees being able to grow there.

What a stark difference between the two–trees growing where a barren desert once was.

No matter what the circumstances are in our lives right now, God is able to renew, remake and restore.

There can be tall, lush pine trees where only dry sand once blew in the wind.

Don’t give up hope—God is in control of every desert you encounter, AND He is the creator of every tall tree.

A Voice of One Calling

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene—  during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.  He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.  As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:

“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.
Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
    the rough ways smooth.
And all people will see God’s salvation.’”

—Luke 3:1-6

Have you made a straight path for Jesus in your life?

Have you seen God’s salvation?

You are the only one who can make the decision to follow Jesus.

It is up to you to ask for forgiveness and be repentant.

Jesus has purchased a place in Heaven for you.

The question is, will you accept His gift of life everlasting?
