Creatures That Move

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

—Genesis 1:26

 

 

Strolling slowly on the boardwalk, I noticed several dragonflies darting around near the water’s surface.

Dragonflies are so delicate, so quick and so ornate.

Everything that God has made is beautiful.

Every creature that exists is a masterpiece of God.

He Gives

He gives food to every living creature;
    His love is eternal.

—Psalm 136:25

I could hear a distinct bird voice outside.

Looking through my bay window, I could see a group of birds visiting the rock fountain in the yard.

They were enjoying the flowing water and flitting from one place to another.

God provides food and drink for all His creatures.

When I am blessed to see some of His creatures as I did by my fountain, it creates a joyful excitement within me as I witness the beauty of what He has made.

Creatures of the Sea

I am fascinated by the ocean and the creatures that live there.

God has made living things that thrive in the depths that are yet undiscovered by man.

It is exciting to me just to watch life underwater and gaze at such beauty.

 

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Everything He Does

Walking over to a bush in my yard, I suddenly noticed something on a Lantana bloom.

Not really being sure what it was, I cautiously approached an intricately designed, winged creature.

Was it a wasp or a bee?

Would it decide to sting me at any moment, for being so close?

One photograph after another, it remained on the flower, content to be the object of my curiosity.

Looking on the internet later to try to find out what it was, I found that I had been watching a Polka-Dot Wasp Moth.

Well, now.

Imagine that!

Wonderfully arrayed in red, white and blue, this moth was such a beauty to behold.

Psalm 111:3 reads,

Everything He does reveals His glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails.

God fashioned this moth just the way He wanted to.

In each color and design on its body, God’s marvelous power of creation was evident.

The Life

It was huge….

As I was walking to my office at work today, I found that an intricately beautiful moth was very near my door on the brick.

With a closed wing length of probably 3 1/2 inches, he could hardly be missed.

Every detail of his appearance was amazing.

With wings that looked like a finely crafted rug and feathery antennae perfectly aligned and proportioned, it was truly a marvel to behold.

Everything that God has made is wondrous!

Job 12:10 tells us,

“In His hand is the life of every creature
    and the breath of all mankind.”

The Desires of Your Heart

The sun was setting as I went for a walk in the neighborhood.

I consciously thought of enjoying the time, taking in the reality of the moments I was being blessed with.

The sunlight was still falling on the trees in the orange grove beside my house, giving them a warm glow as they nestled in the thick green grass that had succumbed to the shadows.

Turning around, I noticed the flowering Crepe Myrtle trees in my yard, towering high with bundles of color.

A dog barked in the distance.

Gopher turtles had dug holes in the ground to shelter themselves in many places I walked.

The pink, fluffy clouds to the south looked like a lovely painting.

If I had decorated a room especially for someone, I wonder how I would feel if they entered it, but failed to notice or appreciate the decorations?

Day after day, God creates unspeakable beauty in our surroundings.

He gives it especially to us, to appreciate and enjoy.

Instead of hurrying through the hours and moments I am given, failing to notice and appreciate the creative works of His hands, I should take the time to enjoy what He has prepared with a thankful and grateful heart.

Blessed is the Man

He was all alone on the boardwalk.

Just a single black bird, visible through the opening in the deck rails.

The lake below him, the blue sky above him, and a couple of trees growing nearby.

No other birds.

Just him.

Psalm 1:1-3 reads,

“Blessed is the man
    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.”

Sometimes, in order to keep from walking in the counsel of the wicked, we have to choose to walk alone.

Sometimes, in order to keep from hanging around people who indulge in sinning, we have to choose to be alone.

Sometimes, in order to keep from being with people who enjoy scoffing at others, we have to choose to be alone.

Even if we are alone, we can be blessed by God.

We can think about what God would want in our lives.

We can pray day and night and He will always hear us.

Pleasing God is what’s important, even if it means we are far away from the crowd.

What You Will Eat

Walking along the sidewalk of the park yesterday morning, I saw a squirrel not far from me.

Securing an acorn in his paw, he began to eat without fear of my presence.

The trees in my own yard yield a great many of those same acorns.

On any given day, I can see squirrels scampering in my yard, enjoying life.

God provides them with the food they need.

He can provide for us, as well.

Jesus said,

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.”

Matthew 6:25

Every Green Plant for Food

I noticed the squirrel sitting on a knob of a tree.

Still.

Holding something.

Probably food.

He was enjoying God’s provision.

Warm sunshine.

A tree-side seat with a view.

All the creatures that God has made are provided food and shelter, each having what it needs.

So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
    male and female he created them.

 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.  And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

—Genesis 1:27-31

Holy, Holy, Holy

On my way home today, I was listening to the radio.

“Revelation Song” came on.

Here are part of the lyrics:

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And I will adore You…!*

The lyrics are taken from the book of Revelation, chapter four.

Here is a portion of that chapter:

At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.  Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.  From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.

In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.  The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty,’

who was, and is, and is to come.”

(verses 2-8)

When I consider the holiness of God, I cannot even fathom what that truly means.

Holy.

Pure.

Almighty.

An emerald rainbow encircling His throne.

A sea of glass, clear as crystal in front of it.

God is to be reverenced.

God is to be awed.

He holds our very lives in His hands.
