The Presence of the Angels

Have you ever had a birthday party?

Chances are, when you walked into the room everyone cheered and began to sing joyfully.

And why not?

They were celebrating your special day.

Your friends were truly happy for you.

If you know Jesus as your Savior, there was rejoicing in Heaven the moment you repented of your sins and asked for forgiveness.

How do I know?

The Bible tells us in Luke 15:10 that

“In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Can you just imagine the scene?

Angels rejoicing.

Angels rejoicing over you.

Like a birthday party, they were truly happy in celebrating your special day–the day you entered God’s eternal salvation.

God sent Jesus to the world to pay the price for our sins, purchasing a place for us in Heaven.

Now, that’s something to rejoice about!

Glory to God

What would it have been like on that night long ago to have seen the angels appearing?

I have always thought of this scene with the angels filling the night sky and the shepherds looking up at them.

The passage below really doesn’t say that.

I wonder if the angels were standing with them.

The shepherds had the glory of the Lord shining about them.

Imagine–light ALL around you.

Imagine–an angel right there with you.

Imagine–a MULTITUDE of angels all standing around you praising God!

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

—Luke 2:8-14
