Walking along the dock, I saw the flowers growing in the metal tub.
Bright and colorful and at varying heights, they seemed to be thriving in their little environment.
I don’t know who planted them.
I don’t know who comes by and gives them water.
I do know that planting or watering is of absolutely no use if God does not give the miracle of growth to the plant.
If we put a stone into the ground and water it daily, nothing will come from it.
Years later, it will still be a stone in the ground.
When God gives growing life to a seed, a magnificent miracle of creation unfolds as the plant emerges from the soil, reaching up toward the light of the sun.
When we invest in someone’s life, telling them of salvation through Jesus, we “plant” a seed of faith and truth.
When we invest in someone’s life, seeking to nurture their faith journey, we “water” them.
One person may “plant” in someone’s life and later, another person “waters.”
Neither would matter at all if God did not give the spiritual growth to the believer.
We should continue to plant.
Continue to water.
Continue to invest in the lives of those around us.
God is faithful to give the growth.
So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
