I Changed the Way I Thought

Sometimes it’s really hard to say you’re sorry.

Sorry for poor parenting.

Sorry for giving your own parents a hard time.

Sorry for not being a good spouse.

Sorry for not making good choices.

Sorry for being unkind.

Sorry for neglecting people who loved you.

Sorry for neglecting yourself.

Sometimes it’s really hard to say you’re sorry.

Sorry that you didn’t say, “I love you,” when you had the chance.

Sorry that you didn’t accept, “I love you,” when you heard it.

Sorry for not helping people who needed help.

Sorry for not giving attention to your family.

Sorry for not spending time with those who cared about you.

Sometimes it’s really hard to say you’re sorry.

Sorry that you didn’t live the way God was wanting you to.

Sorry that you didn’t listen to His guidance.

Sorry that you let fear keep you from accomplishing God’s best.

But even though it’s hard, we can say, “I’m sorry.”

We can start with saying those words to God.

We can, one by one, say those words to those that need to hear them.

We can ask for forgiveness from God and from others.

We can decide to live a different way from now on.

Sometimes it’s hard–but we can.

After I was turned around, I changed the way I thought and acted.

—from Jeremiah 31:19
