It’s the perfect weather for kites.
Gusts of wind flow in sheets above the field, the orange grove and the cattle farm.
For our son’s birthday, my husband bought him a very nice kite.
It went up into the sky, higher and higher.
Though it became very small to my eyes, I could still hear the flapping of its material in the wind.
My husband added a spool of fishing line to the twine string that was already connected to it.
He estimated that it had gone up 500 feet.
Somehow, kites seem free.
Free to leave the ground and soar high into the air, yet held safe from being lost by the one holding tight to the string.
Galatians 5:1a says, "Christ has freed us so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom."
We are free in many ways once we accept the gift of eternal life from God.
Verse 16 of that same chapter states, "Let me explain further. Live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your corrupt nature wants."
As Christians, we now have God’s spirit to guide us.
Our spiritual nature can direct us and we are no longer slaves to our old way of life.
We are free to soar, pleasing God.
We are not alone, however.
God is holding tight to our "string" as we fly, protecting us from getting lost.
