Black Skimmers are fun to watch.
Seemingly out of nowhere, they appear flying fast and low over the edge of the shoreline.
With their beak opened wide, they "skim" the surface for food as they fly.
I would think that some small fish, insects or crabs might be just fine, but what about everything else that might get scooped up that’s not edible?
Trash from the latest beach party?
Pieces of plastic or glass?
I wonder if Black Skimmers ever get sick or die from what they ingest.
Aren’t we like Black Skimmers sometimes?
Instead of considering what we "take in" from this world, we just open our hearts and minds and let everything in our path come right on in.
Some of it will be good for us; much of it may not be.
Careful evaluation is needed to guard against the plastic attitudes and the toxic philosophies that are laid out before us.
Proverbs 4:23 reads,
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
