Each morning at work, my duties include being outdoors. Often, birds will fly in to nest in the recesses of covered walkways or endulge in the seed carefully placed in feeders between buildings.
They are interesting to watch. Sometimes, birds will come together—-eat together, stand together, fly together. Other times, a solitary bird will appear, standing guard on the edge of the roof, conforming to an agenda of which only he is aware. Alone, yet confident, he may swoop down to this place or that, scoping out the territory all the while.
I am so very thankful for the friends that God has allowed me to have. Through the years, I have eaten in the company of my friends, we have stood together through good times and difficult times alike. When exciting adventures were the order of the day, we have flown together through the happiest of moments.
There are periods, however, that each of us has been called to stand in alone, except for the presence of our Heavenly Father. There are decisions to be made alone. There are seasons of solitude surely meant for reflection and consideration. With the confidence that comes from God, we are able to remain upright, even in the temporary absence of those that love us.
The Lord will be our confidence.
