There were some very emotional moments for me today. Watching the presidential inauguration on television brought many thoughts to mind. The music, the speakers, the prayer….seeing past presidents and their wives as they arrived on this cold, crisp morning to witness the changing of power and responsibility from the shoulders of one man to another. And so it is that God has allowed us this freedom; the immense blessing of existing as the United States of America.
What kind of nation are we? Moses spoke to the children of Israel as recorded in the book of Deuteronomy saying, " See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’" (Deuteronomy 4:5,6) If Israel chose to observe the decrees and laws of God that had been taught to them, other nations would consider their wisdom.
Could this be said of our country today? Do the nations of the world see us as a people following the commands of God?
As we pray for our nation during this time of peaceful transition, may it be said of us in truth throughout the world:
"Surely, this nation……."
